Vestry Meeting Minutes

December 6, 2009 (Parish Meeting)

Location:       Myrtle Grove Middle School

Time:               Immediately following Sunday morning worship

Chuck Harrill, Sr. Warden led the meeting.

Approximately 60 Parishioners were in attendance. Chuck thanked everyone for their support this past year. He announced that three vestry members are rotating off the Vestry at the end of the year, including himself, Beverly Hill and C.A. Wallin. Therefore an election is needed to replace these members as well as add another member, giving Holy Cross twelve vestry members.

Election of new vestry members and Diocesan delegates:

·         Chuck read the qualifications for serving on the vestry.

·         Chuck presented four nominees for the vestry and asked for additional nominees from the floor. The nominees are:

o        Danny Hooks

o        Floyd Benfield

o        Holly Blankenship

o        Jessell Wilder

·         Since there were only four nominees and four vacancies, a vote wasn’t needed. All four nominees were approved by acclamation.

·         Chuck presented three nominees for Diocesan Delegation. They are:

o        Ted Guilford

o        Bob Underwood

o        Jay Casler as alternate

·         No other nominees were presented. Therefore the three nominees were approved by acclamation.

 Financial Business:

·         Ted Guilford distributed and presented the budget report for the year. There were no questions.

 Ministry Reports:

·         C.A. Wallin, outgoing Jr. Warden, thanked all the parishioners that helped this past year with setup and takedown as well as Fred Hammond for all his hard work as our sextant. Fred also agreed to be our sextant for 2010. C.A. reported that the property is being cleared for our new building and everything is on schedule.

·         Virginia Helms is the vestry liaison for Holy Cross Christian Education and reported the children’s Sunday school classes are going well with good participation. Plan for next year, after we move into the new building, is dividing the class into different age groups. Additional teachers will be needed for this. She also thanked all of the teachers for their hard work and dedication this past year.

·         Carolina Villa reported on the Parish Life ministry as the vestry liaison. She said Linda Lashley and Betty Spitzer are doing a great job as co-chairwomen of this ministry. Events like the annual yard sale, October Fest and the Oyster Roast were big successes. The Men’s Fellowship group, led by Jim Scott also added tremendous value to these events. The Women’s brunch has been popular, led by Judy Guilford. Christmas caroling is planned for December 20th. The event calendar runs into next spring with Shrove Tuesday pancake supper being the first event for 2010.

·         Pat Harrill and Mary Lou Layne reported on the Pastoral Care ministry. Mary Lou is the vestry liaison and Pat was the chairwoman this past year. Pat thanked the committee volunteers for all their help this past year. They have provided cards, food, gifts, hospital visits, as well as rides to doctor visits and cancer treatments for those in need. Mary Lou thanked Pat for her great work this year as well as Jan Wilder. Jan is in charge of the prayer chain, which is a very active part of the Holy Cross ministry. Judith Beckett has agreed to Chair the Pastoral Care ministry for 2010.

·         Bob Underwood is the vestry liaison for our membership ministry, which includes the Newsletter, Weekly E-Mail, Marketing/Advertising, and Transfers. He thanked the committee for all their hard work and recognized Fred Hammond for his work on the website & weekly e-mail correspondence, Chuck Dierling for our monthly newsletter, and Carolyn Moore for all her hard work and efforts in marketing and advertising.

·         Scott Yeakey reported on our Fund Raising ministry, as the chairman. He reminded everyone of the Thanksgiving offering as well as the yard sale in the spring. He is also exploring donations online through our website.

Questions or comments from the floor:

·         Linda Lashley asked if the committee Chairs could get copies of the time and talent sheets filled out by the Parishioners. She said this would help identify people who are interested in each particular ministry. Chuck Harrill said he will e-mail these out.

·         Darrell Johnson recognized Chuck Harrill as Sr. Warden this past year. Chuck has done a great job and received a standing ovation from the Parishioners.

·         Father Warner thanked everyone for their hard work this past year and for being beacons for Holy Cross. He said he is proud of our Parish and is happy to be a part of us. He also reminded everyone that there is a prayer basket at the Chapel for anyone that would like to place a need or concern there for his prayers. He also mentioned his excitement of a new Daughter’s of the King (DOK) chapter at Holy Cross. He is currently conducting training for this and invites any woman interested in learning more about the organization.

·         Meeting was adjourned by Chuck Harrill, Sr. Warden.
