Vestry Meeting Minutes
December 6, 2009 (Parish Meeting)

Chuck Harrill, Sr. Warden led the meeting.
Approximately 60 Parishioners were in
attendance. Chuck thanked everyone for their support this past
year. He announced that three vestry members are rotating off the
Vestry at the end of the year, including himself, Beverly Hill and
C.A. Wallin. Therefore an election is needed to replace these
members as well as add another member, giving Holy Cross twelve
vestry members.
Election of new vestry members and
Diocesan delegates:

Chuck read the qualifications for serving on the
vestry.
·
Chuck presented four nominees for the vestry and
asked for additional nominees from the floor. The nominees are:
o
Danny Hooks
o
Floyd Benfield
o
Holly Blankenship
o
Jessell Wilder
·
Since there were only four nominees and four
vacancies, a vote wasn’t needed. All four nominees were approved
by acclamation.
·
Chuck presented three nominees for Diocesan
Delegation. They are:
o
Ted Guilford
o
Bob Underwood
o
Jay Casler as alternate
·
No other nominees were presented. Therefore the
three nominees were approved by acclamation.
Financial Business:
·
Ted Guilford distributed and presented the budget
report for the year. There were no questions.
Ministry Reports:
·
C.A. Wallin, outgoing Jr. Warden, thanked all the
parishioners that helped this past year with setup and takedown as
well as Fred Hammond for all his hard work as our sextant. Fred
also agreed to be our sextant for 2010. C.A. reported that the
property is being cleared for our new building and everything is
on schedule.
·
Virginia Helms is the vestry liaison for Holy Cross
Christian Education and reported the children’s Sunday school
classes are going well with good participation. Plan for next
year, after we move into the new building, is dividing the class
into different age groups. Additional teachers will be needed for
this. She also thanked all of the teachers for their hard work and
dedication this past year.

Carolina Villa reported on the Parish Life ministry
as the vestry liaison. She said Linda Lashley and Betty Spitzer
are doing a great job as co-chairwomen of this ministry. Events
like the annual yard sale, October Fest and the Oyster Roast were
big successes. The Men’s Fellowship group, led by Jim Scott also
added tremendous value to these events. The Women’s brunch has
been popular, led by Judy Guilford. Christmas caroling is planned
for December 20th. The event calendar runs into next
spring with Shrove Tuesday pancake supper being the first event
for 2010.

Pat Harrill and Mary Lou Layne reported on the
Pastoral Care ministry. Mary Lou is the vestry liaison and Pat was
the chairwoman this past year. Pat thanked the committee
volunteers for all their help this past year. They have provided
cards, food, gifts, hospital visits, as well as rides to doctor
visits and cancer treatments for those in need. Mary Lou thanked
Pat for her great work this year as well as Jan Wilder. Jan is in
charge of the prayer chain, which is a very active part of the
Holy Cross ministry. Judith Beckett has agreed to Chair the
Pastoral Care ministry for 2010.

Bob Underwood is the vestry liaison for our
membership ministry, which includes the Newsletter, Weekly E-Mail,
Marketing/Advertising, and Transfers. He thanked the committee for
all their hard work and recognized Fred Hammond for his work on
the website & weekly e-mail correspondence, Chuck Dierling for our
monthly newsletter, and Carolyn Moore for all her hard work and
efforts in marketing and advertising.

Scott Yeakey reported on our Fund Raising ministry,
as the chairman. He reminded everyone of the Thanksgiving offering
as well as the yard sale in the spring. He is also exploring
donations online through our website.
Questions or comments from the floor:
·
Linda Lashley asked if the committee Chairs could
get copies of the time and talent sheets filled out by the
Parishioners. She said this would help identify people who are
interested in each particular ministry. Chuck Harrill said he will
e-mail these out.

Darrell Johnson recognized Chuck Harrill as Sr.
Warden this past year. Chuck has done a great job and received a
standing ovation from the Parishioners.

Father Warner thanked everyone for their hard work
this past year and for being beacons for Holy Cross. He said he is
proud of our Parish and is happy to be a part of us. He also
reminded everyone that there is a prayer basket at the Chapel for
anyone that would like to place a need or concern there for his
prayers. He also mentioned his excitement of a new Daughter’s of
the King (DOK) chapter at Holy Cross. He is currently conducting
training for this and invites any woman interested in learning
more about the organization.
